Earth science is all about figuring out how our planet works. This is important because we can learn from the past and the changes that have occurred to better predict problems in the future. Geoscientist study Earth, how it's systems work, Earth in space, our solar system, and other universes. They also look at the Earth's solid surface, the water on the planet, the atmosphere, and the inside of the Earth. To study the Earth, they collect data through sensors in the ground and in the air. Geoscientist use models to show changes. Earth science is all about change over time. You can learn about forming mountains, the continents, how seas have been made, how erosion occurs, and how the sediment from erosion changes to rock again. Using computers scientist can show long changes over time occur and see catastrophic events that would otherwise be dangerous. We learn about Earth science so that we can make good decisions about how to take care of the Earth. This effects everyone on the planet. How will we use the resources we have to continue life as we know it.
It is important to gain knowledge about the Earth through Earth science so citizens can make good choices for the Earth in the future. This is a perfect time in life to form that information so it will become a part of who I am before other things can take priority. This is key to keeping the Earth healthy for me and my children. I am excited about learning more about the Earth and it's process and systems this year. With this knowledge, I can make good choices for the people that come after me.
